The Venture Partner position is a one year, post-doc fellowship at Texas Venture Labs, a startup accelerator at UT’s business school. My role is operational. I manage student recruitment, marketing, classroom operations, and the TVL scholarship competition. I assist with company recruiting and in running the Venture Labs Investment Competitions.

In January of 2010 I started a solo venture doing the same sort of work I was doing at Robinson Toor. I still run this company as a part-time job. Although my company is profitable (with a consistent ROI of over 15%) it’s more of a hobby.

I spent the first half of my summer working in the Office of General Counsel. I drafted memos and letters regarding FERPA, TTCA, contract disputes, and other matters.

Legislative Intern, Office of Rep. Richard Peña Raymond, January 2013-May 2013

I worked in Rep. Raymond’s office in the Texas House as a legislative intern during the 83rd legislative session. I write white papers, attended committee meetings, and assisted the general counsel

 

ejcLegal Intern, Equal Justice Center, June 2012 – August 2012

I spent my summer working at the Equal Justice Center, a non-profit in Austin, TX.  The EJC represents low-income clients in employment disputes, generally regarding minimum/prevailing wage and overtime violations. Because most legal aid groups are unable to help those who aren’t US citizens, the EJC performs a critical mission in upholding the law in Central Texas, ensuring people are paid what they earned. I drafted pleadings, memos and briefs related to issues like FLSA and workers’ liens. I worked with another law student on 5 cases under the supervision of attorneys.

In January of 2011 I became an SAT teacher at The Princeton Review because teaching sounded more fun that tutoring, and it was. I left this job in July of 2011 to start law school.

I am currently attend the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas. I will graduate in May of 2014. In addition to taking legal classes, I’m also involved in a program at the business school: Texas Venture Labs. Through Texas Venture Labs I spent my fall semester working on projects to help out two local start-ups. The first was Amatra, a SaaS platform for emergency mass communication. The second was DryVax which is an idea-stage company based on a patent by two pharmacy professors. DryVax is a method for thermo-stabilizing vaccines that contain aluminum adjuvants.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (with a minor in Legal Studies) from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. I graduated in May of 2011 with a 3.6 GPA.
